Detective Conan, or simply Detective Conan is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama about an enigmatic young detective. It has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday from September 19, 1986 to present. The manga was adapted into an animated television series by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and Nippon Television Network System between October 16, 1994 and September 18, 2004. It was also adapted into an American live-action television series of the same name which began airing on January 17, 2009 on Kids' WB! but it concluded after two seasons on April 8, 2010 due to low ratings; however it is still intended for future release or possible revival. The series is licensed in English by Funimation, and was dubbed by 4Kids Entertainment. The manga has been adapted into 104 different animated television episodes and 52 animated feature films. A live-action Japanese television series was produced in 2005 and aired in Japan on TV Tokyo. Ikuhara Minoru, the author of Revolutionary Girl Utena, wrote 7 episodes for the series' first two seasons. The director of "Reborn!" ("Moonlight Mask") and "The Scarlet Letter" worked on this series as well. Funimation has acquired the right to release Detective Conan: The Complete Series on DVD taking advantage of their deal with FUNimation Entertainment for distribution in North America. Funimation currently holds the rights to the series in English-speaking countries (except Canada), and has released ten DVD compilation sets as of 2011. As of 2017, a total of 104 episodes have been aired. The series first aired on October 16, 1994 and ended on September 18, 2004. The story is set in Fudo Detective Agency located in Tokyo, Japan. Conan Edogawa is a university student who's solved many cases as a private investigator but never as a detective because he lacks training as can be seen from his first case as Shinichi Kudo from "Kaitō Kid". Shinichi Kudo is a detective who solves cases for the police and justice system. He has the ability to "see" what people think and feel, but only someone with physical contact with him can actually see it. Coincidentally, Kaito Kid is a rival detective from Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Special Criminal Investigation Unit. Conan is hired by Professor Agasa to work on a computer-related case because of his knowledge in using computers. The case involves a boy named Ran Mouri who was adopted by the CIA, while being trained as a spy in order to find Tekagi's hidden documents that may have been stolen from a CIA base in a village in Afghanistan. Kikuchi's son, Shuichi Akai, is kidnapped by the Black Organization. Detective Kogoro Mouri tries to find the culprits before his brother, Inspector Koichi Mouri, does. Conan and the other detectives such as Ran and Shinichi work to solve all mysteries that involve crimes committed by evil organizations such as the Red Organization and the Blue Organization. "Detective Conan" has spawned attractive attractive merchandise such as books, toys and other commodities. The series has been successful in Japan and spawned an action figure line for Jakks Pacific in conjunction with "Pokémon" toy manufacturer Tomy Inc. cfa1e77820
